One of the most admirable small town organizations in the state is the new PFLAG chapter in Salisbury, NC. In response to the homophobic rantings of the local school board when they voted to not allow a gay-straight alliance, locals in the civilized city of Salisbury raised thousands of dollars to provide a scholarship for one LGBT high school student and one Straight high school student to the college of their choice.
